For those of you playing the home version of the game, of the 6 nobel prizes to be awarded this year, four of them have been announced (chemistry, medicine, economics, and physics), and all four have gone to scientists and researchers from our very own USA. I'm pulling for a full sweep. That'd be pretty neat. We might be able to swing the Literatureure prize, but I'm not so sure that we're likely to get awarded the Peace prize. It'd be awfully strange to give us that given our current state of peace (although often, these prizes are given not for recent work, but for past work which has shown itself worthy). So, our grade school systems may be flunking the math and science tests, but our advanced programs seem to be holding their own.

Oh, and for those playing the advanced version, please note that our recent winner in Chemistry follows his father's footsteps. Dad won 47 years ago for medicine. And for those on the hard difficulty level, he is the *7th* such person to land the honor of a second generation of nobel laureate (No thirds yet). That's a fairly high number. Make of it what you will.

Interesting that it happens so comparatively often. But of course it could either be nature in the form of smart genes or nurture in that intellectuals tend to lend an intellectual drive to their offspring. In any case it does seem to get passed along by whatever mechanism...

That smart people come from smart families, and while the pressure of having overachieving parents causes some kids to freak out and become AT hiking stoners, it causes others to become even more neurotic workaholics than their predecessors.

Just a thought. ;)
