The last time I saw the internet 'pipes' this full was 9/11. Back then when I couldn't get to any sites I went around the corner to see the news reports on the TV, and listened to streaming BBC to get coverage. Now there's no TV. I don't know why I'm posting this now, except that I hope someone survives and sees it. I haven't seen one of them myself yet, and my only hope at this point is that I don't. I can't get to any of the regular news outlets, but at this point, everyone is blogging about it, and some people have posted pictures. One guy set up a webcam showing the masses somewhere in NYC, but that went offline a few minutes ago. The CDC has posted a 'more information coming' notice across their web page, but no one yet knows what's causing all the dead to come back and attack everyone around them. None of the pictures are clear, but if you see someone looking kind of grey, and frothing at the mouth, run as fast and as far as you can.  If they kill you, you become one of them.

I've locked myself into an unused office here in the basement, and the rest of the building seems to have cleared out. In a few minutes I'm going to try to make a break for it. It's a good thing it is summer, and summer school hasn't started up yet; there aren't a lot of people on campus, which is probably slowing the spread here. If I can get to my car without encountering any of them, I should be able to get away. I'll have to stay off the highways, they're probably a traffic jam by now. I don't know if I should go back to Framingham or just clear out. I better stop back and get a few things loaded up, see if A. is still there, or if she already grabbed the cats and fled.

If any of you survive.... if any of us survive.... and if any of you read this.. Call me. I hope the cell phone towers will still be up, and I'll keep my phone charged as long as I can get gas into the car or plug into an outlet somewhere. I'm going to head for the quiet parts of the western end of the state, maybe a state park. I'll take the laptop, but may not have access.

And if we don't survive.... I love you all.

This will probably be my last post ever. I'm stuck at the top of the Volen building. It's a 5 story building, and the only graveyards nearby are small ones. Lucky the hospital went mostly defunct a few years ago. I've got the stairwells jammed up tight with every desk and coat rack and filing cabinet I could muscle over. I was able to rig the emergency stop on one of the two elevators. the other one is still down at the end of the hall, and I'm trying to find a way onto the roof. I hope their brains are so far gone that they can't figure out how to use the elevator, but my hopes are starting to dwindle. There weren't that many on campus at first, but now every tim I look out the windows I see more of them crawling around. There's dozens of them all around the plaza below, and there's no way I can make it to my car now. No weapon up here in the labs, so I'm wielding a tennis racket right now. Not much up here to help out. Found a Brita in the department fridge, so I've got clean water for now, so long as the Quabbin keeps flowing into the building. I've got maybe 2 days of food if I steal other people's food out of the fridges (they won't need it). Maybe three if I dare going down and breaking into the vending machine.

Doesn't seem like it'll come to that. I hope they either find out what happened and stat fixing this shit before then, or more likely, they'll batter down the braces I have holding the downstairs doors shut and get to me. I saw them rip apart a woman whoran screaming from the library. I keep seeing myself that way. I can still see the pile of gore and blood. I'm not hungry anymore. Maybe I'll make it 4 days.

With all of our military overseas, we should've seen something like this. I heard rumors that it was a bioterrorist attack from eastern europe. If so, it's gotten loose, because I heard they were seeing this in london, prague, and beijing.

Never thought I'd die before I hit 30.

A., I'm sorry.

Helicopters finally came. I think I owe my life to [livejournal.com profile] professormortis for alerting them to my location, and to [livejournal.com profile] j_stone_ for getting the word out that there *was* a rescue operation. I was up on the windy roof for a couple of hours. I stopped hearing noises below me after the first hour, but there was no way I was going to chance it at that point. Just as it was getting dark the rescue crew found me. They didn't end up taking me to the Pike rest stop. Apparently there was some crowding issues, or long term safety concerns, or helicopter landing access, or something like that. I'm at the state prison down the way. The one you see when you're driving along the pike. There's a lot of unease right now. The guards are as worried about the inmates getting restless as the dead shambling around outside. It's been a bit of a chaos in here getting everything sorted out and people settled down. Phones are problematic in here, and cell phones aren't getting much signal. Everyone wants to send e-mail to loved ones, but there are only 30 or so computers in the prison's cluster, and maybe twice that in offices that they have pressed into use. People are only being given 5 minutes at a time. The only reason I'm getting more time is because I've been volunteering to help get the network opened up for civilians and military who have brought computers in, and getting more systems set up and communicating. The inmates are all in their cells for the time being, and the civilians are in the library, and the gym, and the dining area. Did you know that the Aramark food here in the prison is better than what we got in college? Hopefully these walls designed to keep people in will hold at keeping the dead out. For now they aren't letting anyone out, and I don't know when they will. I'm alive, and hope to see you in a week or two. I can't tell you how many people here are in emotional shock, having seen the carnage, or worse, watched it happen to people they knew and loved. Everyone is clustered around the television now, as there are still some news crews braving it to give reports. They're not actually out on the street now, but they're sharing what information they have, and it looks grim. Even if we do survive, the economy might not, and I'm scared about how different and bleak the world is going to be after this. I'm scared that some of my friends or family haven't made it. Sleep is a long ways away yet, so I'm going to go see what else I can do to find out what is going on and get the civilian reports for the national guardsmen here.

**UPDATE**: Crap, they got Mr. Wizard!
